If you are trying to sync your Outlook contacts using ActiveSync with Exchange on Android, you will probably get much more unknown contacts in your list than you expect. In fact, it will be a lot of email addresses that you probably wrote to. However, these have nothing to do with your real contact entries.
After some research, it seems like these are "suggested contacts" created automatically by Outlook. I never actually noticed them until I synched on my new Android phone and ended up with thousands of bad contacts.
The solution is to get rid of the suggested contacts in Outlook 2010. Follow these steps:
1. go to your
Contacts and under
My Contacts, look for
Suggested Contacts folder. Right-click,
Properties, select
Outlook Address Book and uncheck "
Show this folder as an e-mail Address Book".
2. In the menu, click
File, then
Options. In the tab, click
Contacts. Uncheck the box labeled "
Automatically create Outlook contacts for recipients that do not belong to an Outlook Address Book".
3. Go back to the
Suggested Contacts folder. Select all entries (CTRL+A) and delete them.
4. Sync on your Android phone and notice that all bad entries will disappear.
